Which witch is which?

Hi, my name is Craig, and I'm an adult who enjoyed the "Harry Potter" series (so far).

I've read all five, preordered the sixth one, and can't wait until the seventh one is released.

However, my curiosity has been piqued by something ELSE lately... namely, "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events." Perhaps, however, this is only due to the imminent release of the movie based on said books.

What I wanna know is: are they any good? Are they better (as a few have told me) than our beloved Harry Potter? And just who is this Lemony Snicket anyway?

P.S. I really wouldn't have read the Harry Potter books if Stephen King hadn't recommended them in his book "On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft." Honest.
P.P.S. If you wish to laud Harry Potter, go ahead, I ain't gonna stop you.

"A series of unfortunate events" is a very cute series. Maybe cute is the wrong word....intentionally depressing in a cute way? They should not be compared with Harry Potter....just enjoyed for the misery they bring to the world....

i read them at ny in-laws house and breezed through the whole series in a few days...They are short, light and fun. no heavy thought required....

I wasn't really trying to compare the two. I'm still amazed at how big this whole Harry Potter thing has gotten. I doubt Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events will get as big, but I'm curious to see how Jim Carrey will pull of the multiple role thing.
